How to Start the School Year Right

With school having now officially started for the majority of us, it can be a bit daunting to figure out how to start the new school year. The beginning of anything new is always delicate because often, it sets the tone for how the rest is going to go.

Starting out in the right state of mind will help you have a successful school year, therefore I've compiled a list of tips to help you start your school year right!

  • Take the new school year as a new beginning. You are about to embark on something new, and new beginnings hold limitless potential for change. Don't be held back by whatever may have happened in your past. With the new school year, you can establish yourself to be however you'd like.
  • Switch back to a healthy lifestyle. It's common to go off course when you're out of your daily grind, which is essentially what happens during summer. Sleeping the proper amount, eating a balanced diet, and working out are the basics of committing to a healthy lifestyle.

  • Prepare for school every night. A bit of night preparation goes a long way, especially since time goes a lot faster in the morning than it does at night (or it seems like it, anyway). Decide your outfit, pack your homework in your bag, put away your school supplies, etc. You want to set yourself up for success tomorrow.
  • Organise your life. Organisation is the key factor in cutting time, which is a lot of what school's all about. Clean your room to have a peaceful frame of mind. Invest in an agenda to keep track of events and assignments in a timely fashion. Declutter your files of your expired presentation and essay documents. You'll feel a lot better and you can use the earned time for other, more useful activities.

  • Memorise your schedule and school layout as soon as possible. Knowing your schedule saves you a lot of headache trying to remember what day it is and what classes you have for what day. Explore your school whenever you can - preferably with a map - and find out the routes to your classes early on, so you don't lose time confused in the hallways.
  • Set goals for yourself. This is a useful way to motivate yourself as well as track your prograss throughout the year. There are a lot of different ways people use to accomplish their goals and do whatever works for you, whether it's making SMART goals or keeping a daily check list. Goals propel you to keep moving forward and making progress with your life, which is a very positive thing.

  • Make a good first impression. A human being makes a million mental calculations within seven seconds of meeting someone new. Your opportunity to make a good first impression only comes once and although possible, opinions made based on first impressions are difficult to change. So smile, make eye contact, straighten your posture and you'll be on the good side of your classmates and teachers!
  • Establish good habits early on. Eat your breakfast, complete your homework when it's assigned, and wake up early in the morning. If you start with these good habits from the beginning when you're feeling the new school year motivation, you'll at least stick with it for a while and it may even stay!

  • Get involved. Joining various clubs and trying out for sports teams allow you to find others with similar interests, thus creating new friendships. Getting involved doesn't only mean clubs and sports, however - participating in class discussions, volunteering at a community centre, and helping out at events are also ways to get involved with the environment around you.
  • Study. It's the only way you'll be able to retain knowledge, and the sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be on your path to success. Academic success is one of the most emphasized in school because it is important. Spend time with the material and it'll have your back when an evaluation rolls around. You're spending the majority of your day at school to learn, so you might as well do it right.

To all of you back in school, I wish you luck in whatever you wish to do. Push yourself to work hard, but accept your limitations. I know that's contradictory, but during the school year there will be times when you slack off and times when you overwork yourself too much. Have realistic expectations and enjoy your time at school! The years are short-lived.

Introduction

I've tried blogging in the past, and it's never really worked out for me. However, that being said, I do think success is possible no matter how many times you've failed, so forever wrens is my next attempt to create something worthwhile.

Recently, I've been in a bit of a rut and because of it, I've wanted to re-evaluate a lot of the decisions I make daily, which has turned out to be the foundation of an entire lifestyle change. I want to incorporate in my life things that are only positive and bring me happiness. Making a blog documenting my progress and the things that I learn along the way seemed to be a sensible conclusion.

This website is a student lifestyle blog, covering topics that are important to this particular student's life such as fashion and books and school as well as many others. I have faith that this little nook of the Internet will grow considerably over the next few months, and I believe that it'll blossom even more with you around to help it.

If you stick around - which, I hope you do - I can't wait to share my findings and go in this new adventure together.
